What is Coaching?

The Short Version
A coach is a professional source of guidance and support, to assist you with whatever you are hoping to improve or change about your current circumstances.

The Slightly Longer Version
Coaching is a professional partnership between a willing client, and a trained, certified coach. The coaching relationship provides a safe space in which to sort through your hopes and fears, strategize your goals, and be held accountable to the commitments you make. Your coach can serve as a ‘sounding board’ for your ideas, your dreams and your beliefs, and can provide objective, outside inquiry and feedback. The combination of all of these elements leads to forward progress and, over time, lasting change in your life. As the client, you are responsible for doing the ‘work’ of implementing any change, new ideas, new behaviors into your life. The coach, however, is there to support you and hold on to your vision – and will play a significant role in helping to discover, develop, and encourage your growth.

What Coaching ISN’T:

Therapy: Therapy focuses on healing the past and developing healthy coping skills. Coaching focuses on the present and the future.

Mentoring: Mentoring assumes that one person has expertise in a given area . In coaching, YOU are the expert on your own life. The coach is there to encourage and develop your self-discovery.

Consulting: A consultant assumes responsibility for the results of the ‘job’ he/she is hired to do. In coaching, YOU are responsible for your own life and your own results. The coach is there to help you find clarity so that you feel empowered to make the best choices for yourself.

Why do I even need a coach?

You don’t. In truth, nobody ‘needs’ a coach. Being needy or dependent is not what having a coach is about. Having a coach is a choice. It’s a choice to give yourself every opportunity to be your best self and live your best life.

What is Plant-Based Nutrition?

Plant-based nutrition is a ‘diet’ that does not include any animal-based foods. Meat, poultry, dairy, eggs, fish, seafood are not consumed. Instead, a plant-based diet includes ALL grains, beans, vegetables, nuts, fruits, seeds, legumes, and sea vegetables. The scientific evidence is compelling, dramatic, and overwhelming that a plant-based diet is a KEY to sustainable weight loss, lower cholesterol, and the avoidance of chronic disease like cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.

What if I don’t want to give up meat?

I make no secret that I am a huge advocate of a plant-based, meat-free diet. I believe it is the healthiest way to eat and has benefits far beyond weight loss. That said, it is not my place to force anyone! I will meet you where you are. There are many improvements and adjustments that can be made to a diet that includes animal-based foods, without eliminating meat if you are not ready for that step.

Can you give me a guarantee that my life and my health will get better if I work with you?

Unfortunately, no – because your success depends on YOU. If my clients are not satisfied with our sessions, however, they may stop immediately. I do not ever try to keep anybody ‘hooked in’ to coaching, as that dynamic doesn’t benefit either one of us. I only want to work with people who WANT to work with me! The most important element in the coaching relationship is the client’s willingness to be coached.
