Staying Healthy Is Like Buying Toilet Paper.
Staying healthy is like buying toilet paper. You have to think about it.
When I was in my 20’s I was constantly running out of toilet paper in my apartment. It just wasn’t on my radar to think about. Someone else had always bought the toilet paper in my life - my mom, my college dorm - and so when it came time for me to assume my own toilet paper responsibilities, I had to go through a period of learning the hard way.
I would go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and use the last of the TP, knowing that I would have nothing available in the morning. Ugh.
I would go through every box of kleenex in the apartment, because I kept forgetting to pick up TP on my way home from work. Ridiculous.
I just…..couldn’t get it together.
Toilet Paper Management was not something I was prepared for.
But, out of necessity, I learned. Now I can’t even remember the last time I ran out of toilet paper - and there’s usually an abundant supply in the closet.
It’s on my radar.
It’s part of my routine.
Part of my brain is always thinking about it - although it doesn’t seem to take any effort anymore. There’s just…..toilet paper.
This is exactly what needs to happen in order to live an ongoing healthy lifestyle.
You have to consciously think about it - train yourself to consider your health in every moment - until it doesn’t feel like ‘effort’ anymore, and you’re just…..a healthy person.
It’s an odd comparison, I know - but it came to me as I was replenishing the toilet paper and it seemed relevant.
May you always be healthy - and may you always have TP.
