
For years, I hated beets. I’d never actually tried them, mind you, but I just ‘knew’ that I didn’t want any. They were too red. Too wet. They had a strange texture. And they were the main ingredient in borscht, which my grandparents used to eat and it always looked weird to me.
So, for years – decades, really – I never ate beets.
And then, one day, after learning about the phenomenal health benefits of beets, I decided to bite the bullet (or the beet) and give them a try.
As you’ve probably guessed by now, I wound up thinking that the beets were delicious! Silly me for avoiding them all those years.
Now it’s your turn – although it doesn’t have to be beets!
I’ll be the first to admit that a lot of ‘health’ foods can be off-putting and freaky at first (tofu, seaweed, seitan, kimchee, nutritional yeast – and the list goes on!)
Is there a food that you’ve always thought was weird, ugly, mysterious, or scary – and so you’ve never even tried it??
